Mexican head coach Javier Aguirre has called up 12 players from the domestic league to begin World Cup preparations. Although the domestic season has not yet concluded, an agreement reached earlier this year between the Mexican Football Federation and the domestic clubs permits these players to step away from their club duties to join the training camp. As a result, they will miss the league playoffs.
The training camp begins on May 6th, and these 12 players are expected to feature in Aguirre's final squad. The remaining 14 spots will be filled by foreign-based players. In addition, eight prospects have been selected to participate in sparring sessions, both to support current preparations and to develop talent for the 2030 World Cup cycle.
Aguirre will announce the final squad on June 1st. Before then, Mexico will play a series of warm-up friendlies: against Ghana on May 22 at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico; Australia on May 30 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, USA; and Serbia on June 4 in Toluca, Mexico.
