Jordan's qualifying campaign was outstanding. The team topped a demanding second-round group that included Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Pakistan. The start was far from smooth, as Jordan drew its opening match and lost the second, raising doubts about its prospects. From that point on, however, the side responded superbly and did not lose again during the round. In the following stage, Jordan advanced behind South Korea, dropping only two matches throughout, to complete the finest World Cup qualifying run in the nation's history.
The squad is built around the same core that delivered the greatest achievement in the country's footballing history. Captain and leader Ihsan Haddad, a 32-year-old Al-Hussein defender, ranks among the most experienced players in the group. Another standout is Mousa Al-Tamari, the Stade Rennais forward widely regarded as the most accomplished player Jordanian football has produced. Other notable inclusions are goalkeeper Yazeed Abulaila, Yazan Al-Arab, Rajaei Ayed, and Mahmoud Al-Mardi.
Jordan will be without a couple of key figures for the tournament, as striker Yazan Al-Naimat and promising young forward Ibrahim Sabra both miss out through injury. Even so, the players and coaching staff believe they have earned the right to test themselves against the world's best and are determined to show how much Jordanian football has progressed in recent years.
Jordan share Group J with Argentina, Austria, and Algeria. They make their World Cup debut on June 17 against Austria at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, before facing Algeria at the same venue on June 22. For their third and final group match, they travel to Arlington, Texas, to take on Argentina on June 27 at AT&T Stadium.
